My review of The Tale of Despereaux.

Today I will be review The Tale of Despereaux, written by Kate DiCamillo.

The Tale of Despereaux is the story of a small mouse named Despereaux, who is the youngest in his family. His brothers and sisters try to teach him how to be a proper mouse. They give up on teaching him, because he is hopeless. One day he hears a something that “sounds like honey.” When he goes to investigate, he finds that it is King Philip playing his guitar and singing for his daughter, Princess Pea. Despereaux sees her, and falls in love. His brother sees him near the humans, so he runs to tell his family. After he leaves, Despereaux brakes the most sacred rule of all. He talks to the humans.

Kate then tells us of a rat named Roscuro. Several years before the start of this story, he left the dungeon. While exploring, he finds the dining room, where there is a feast going on. Long story short, he falls in the queen’s soup. She then has a heart attack and dies.

Meanwhile on a farm, a poor girl named Miggery Sow lives a horrible life. Her father sold her when she was little. The man who owns her hits her when she doesn’t hear right, which makes her hear worse. One day she sees the Pea in a parade for her birthday. Miggery then decides she will be a princess one day. One day, she goes to the castle to help the cook. She meets Roscuro, and together they make a plan.

The tale Despereaux is one of courage and redemption with several bits of humor. All in all it is an enjoyable book.
