Does youth think it can do as it wishes, not caring about the society in which it lives?

Rioting which spread across London, has shown the complete disregard which the young have for society.

Youths smashed windows, breaking into shops, such as baby clothing and food suppliers. Wrecking and setting fire to them, with scant regard to the lives of people who live in the flats above the premises.

These attacks, which have exploded onto city streets, have no basis other than to steal and cause the maximum amount of damage.   Setting fire to cars pushed into the middle of roads, used as roadblocks to hamper Police.

The number of arrests has now risen to four hundred and fifty, with the promise from Police of many more in the very near future.

The cost counted in many millions of pounds for businesses, but also taking away jobs from already hard hit areas.    Many families have also now lost everything, all their possessions and memories as they have become homeless.    It is heartbreaking for them caught up in this lawlessness, which is tearing communities apart.

Police numbers boosted by cancelling all leave, taking the number that will be on the streets of London tonight from seven thousand to sixteen thousand.   The possibility of armoured vehicles, rubber bullets and other so far unused methods need consideration.   This is something that is completely foreign on Britain’s streets, but in the light and scale of the problems might be brought into the policing arsenal.

All this poses many questions that government and local community leaders need to address, not just to talk about but also to bring action to eradicate problems.   Jobless youth, with no future or hope left to fend for themselves.

I’ve been watching this on TV and I cannot understand why parents are allowing their young children out on the streets to riot and destroy.

This is ridiculous my brother is in manchester and I’m quite worried for him.. Idiots destroying their own towns. Looting and everything must stop

Well Barney i hope hes safe, personally in the end they will bring in the army to help – the general public would not mind they just want to live peacefully, and be able to go out in safety.
Ruby i dont think any parent knows what children of 16 – 18 are doing most of the time, but i agree that younger ones should not be out to take part in this mayhem.

It’s unfortunate that this incident happened in a country that many people from other parts of the word regard as socially and financially well developed.

What even caused such a thing to happen? It must have been so planned.

The world is watching what is happening in your country and it is disturbing to say the least. I can understand frustration, but I can not wrap my head around why some feel a right to steal, loot, assault and destroy the property of others. I watched an older gentleman trying to stop a young man from throwing rocks at the police and the kid hauled off and punched the old guy in the face. There is no excuse for that behavior.

Your so right Freethinking, there is no excuse for what these hooligans are doing. Its a sad reflection on society today, the young want everything for free and think the world owes them a living.

There can be no excuse for this criminal behaviour. I don’t buy the talk about hardship and underprivilege for a second. My son lives in London and did it pretty tough for a number of years working at anything he could get, now he’s doing ok. If you want change you do it through the ballot box. This should be a wake up call for the weak politicians in the UK.

Dunno what to say. As I’ve already said in comment on your other article – I think those rioters should be shot on sight. Brutal solution, but shock therapy seems to work the best most of the time. The rubber bullets might be effective enough though. That way few useless leeches and criminals might get killed and there would probably be no more riots for a long time. The way it is, hundreds of thousands of people have to suffer (and probably some people will die anyway) … and criminals learn that they can do as they like thus doing a lot more damage to the society in the future …
