Does youth think it can do as it wishes, not caring about the society in which it lives?
Rioting which spread across London, has shown the complete disregard which the young have for society.
Youths smashed windows, breaking into shops, such as baby clothing and food suppliers. Wrecking and setting fire to them, with scant regard to the lives of people who live in the flats above the premises.
These attacks, which have exploded onto city streets, have no basis other than to steal and cause the maximum amount of damage. Setting fire to cars pushed into the middle of roads, used as roadblocks to hamper Police.
The number of arrests has now risen to four hundred and fifty, with the promise from Police of many more in the very near future.
The cost counted in many millions of pounds for businesses, but also taking away jobs from already hard hit areas. Many families have also now lost everything, all their possessions and memories as they have become homeless. It is heartbreaking for them caught up in this lawlessness, which is tearing communities apart.
Police numbers boosted by cancelling all leave, taking the number that will be on the streets of London tonight from seven thousand to sixteen thousand. The possibility of armoured vehicles, rubber bullets and other so far unused methods need consideration. This is something that is completely foreign on Britain’s streets, but in the light and scale of the problems might be brought into the policing arsenal.
All this poses many questions that government and local community leaders need to address, not just to talk about but also to bring action to eradicate problems. Jobless youth, with no future or hope left to fend for themselves.
