Rudeness is my biggest pet peeve. Whether going to the local grocery store, restaurant or even at work, I encounter rude people every day.

I love it when I call a doctor’s office and they don’t answer (insert sarcasm).  I end up leaving a message that is not returned for 4 days.  Really??  What if this were a semi-emergency or I was incapable of being able to call back?  When I do get a call back and I finally get to ask my question in detail instead of leaving a short message on the answering machine, the receptionist ensures me the doctor will get back to me shortly.  Two weeks later when I go in for my checkup (and had still not received my call back from the doctor) the doctor says, you called us about such and such issue.  Was it ever resolved?  Hell, yeah.  I took care of it myself.  Thanks for asking.

Then there is the grocery store.  You go in search of something and there is never an employee around and if they are, they’re too busy stocking the shelves to care what you ask.  They just motion to look over there.  Sometimes I find employees hanging out two aisles down chit chatting.  Oh, but they are too busy to help me find whatever it is I’m looking for.  Or, how about when you do get to ask someone and they say, ” I don’t know where that is, sorry.”  Do you really even work here?  I’ve even gone up to the cash register and the cashier is talking to another employee the entire time I they are ringing up my groceries, never even offering me a ‘hello’.

What is wrong with people today?  Gone are the days when total strangers waved at passersby on the street or in their cars.  Hardly ever does anyone hold a door for someone they don’t know.  Does anyone smile anymore when they see someone who needs a quick encouragement?  I totally should have lived in the first half of the 20th century.  This 21st century bull is not my thing.  Oh well, one more day to let it roll of my back.  It’s only going to get worse.  People don’t talk anymore, write letters; just constant texting all throughout the day.  I really believe there would be much disappointment from our recent ancestors at the behavior people exhibit nowadays.  No matter the level of rudeness, I will continue to live as I was raised, being respectful of others.  I was not entitled to have this or that just because of our modern era.  Just because we live in a fast-paced world, we all need to slow down and remember that the human connection is the most vital in our society.

I’ll give you that yes, there are a lot of rude people out there. If you lived in the first half of the 20th century you would have to deal with not being able to get a job because you’re a woman(I’m assuming you’re a woman since you used the term hostess), and most men would think your place was in the kitchen at home rearing babies and being subservient (unfortunately some guys still have this mentality).

Sometimes when you say “hello” or greet someone, it doesn’t register. Half the time I greet people at a job they are oblivious that I’ve even spoken. They came to check out the merchandise and I wouldnt take it personally.

It would be nice if people were more polite, but the way our culture is it just doesnt seem fathomable in the near future. I hold open doors for strangers though :)
