Two incidents when I was still young that continue to haunt me.

Secrets I want to share with you/1

1.     Fossilized tooth

One of my favorite games when I was younger was playing gold hunting in the open fields in my hometown.  Together with my friends we use to go to a cave and pretend that we were looking for gold. In one of our sorties I got hold of a rock. It fell from my hands and when it was broken to pieces a fossilized tooth of whatever animal it might be stood out from among the shards. Since I was not sure what it really was, I hid it in my pocket. Upon reaching home I gave it to my father. He was amused with what I found. Since my uncle was at that time working at a museum in Davao City, my father referred it to him. From that time on I haven’t heard about it anymore. Recently though, somebody told me that it has become part of the collection of the museum and is now on display.

2.     Bitten by a cobra and survive

In one of our many games we reached as far as the cornfields. We roam the open space so freely and felt that the world was ours. We played all kinds of games until sundown. But before we left for home, I felt something scratched my leg  and when I checked  I found  I was bitten by a cobra. The pain was almost unbearable but I just bit my tongue. Upon reaching home my mother noticed that I was not feeling well. When she asked me what happened I told her that I was just tired with our games. I didn’t dare tell her that I was bitten by a cobra for fear that she would give me a real scolding.  Since she suspected that I was not really alright, she gave me some aspirin. I went to sleep and when I woke up in the morning I was surprised the pain was gone. Until today, I really still could not understand how I survived the fatal venom of a cobra. Many of my friends were not as fortunate. A good number of them died just a few hours after being bitten. My parents are totally blind about the incident and I intend to
