It’s not quite autumn, the last bit of summer to be enjoyed.
September is such a lovely month
The weather in the UK in September becomes mellow. Warm days, but not so warm that you don’t feel like doing anything. The air is crisp and fresh, the flowers are still out in all their glory before the frost claims them, and the trees are still green and thick. The grass continues to grow, covering the garden with its lush green carpet, and the flies and wasps which plague us in July and August begin to dwindle away.
The evenings are just beginning to shorten, reminding us that autumn is not that far away, but we can still enjoy the late summer sun. September is often a good time to take a holiday, as all the children have returned to school, and it’s cheaper, so you can enjoy more for your money.
Mostly the rain is only light, and the winds are fresh but not overwhelming, we still don’t need an overcoat, and the temperatures at night don’t dip that low. In fact after the warm balmy summer nights, it’s a relief to sleep in a cool room, and not need to open the window, inviting any sort of stray insect that happens to be around at that time.
But sadly September seems to come and go so quickly. We only have 12 days of it left, and the realisation that in October the clocks go back, and our days become even shorter. Then autumn will be truly upon us. But until then, I am going to enjoy September, and all it has to offer us.
