As a server for over thirteen years, I am outraged that we still continue to get only 2.13 hour. When I first started waitressing, the pay was 2.06. At the time, minimum wage was 4.15. Now minimum wage is 6.85, and server pay is only 2.13 in Tennessee. It’s ridiculous that most people got a pay increase of 2.70 while servers only have had a seven cents increase. If anything when the economy is suffering as it is, tips tend to go drastically down.

Some days we may work more than eight hours and only make twenty dollars! That’s okay for employers because they have a trick to get around the required minimum wage difference. It’s completely unfair. I suggest a nationwide servers union to help us raise our pay as well. Servers may not seem as important, but just think of what it would be like to never go out and eat.
