Fancy cars are great to have, but nothing turns heads like a snazzy boat.

Fancy cars are great to have, but nothing turns heads like a snazzy boat. Some will only set you back a couple thousand dollars, while others will dig a multi-million dollar hole in your pocket. And that doesn’t even include the outrageous marine insurance or money-hungry engines that consume a litre of fuel every second.

Fake Capsizing Boat

Although this appears to be a boat in distress, it’s actually a piece of mobile art. Love Love, as the perpetually-sinking boat is called, was created by Julien Berthier, an artist known for making art out of fiasco. He took an abandoned 6.5 metre yacht, chopped it in half, constructed a new keel and added a motor, allowing it to be safely sailed at a 45-degree angle.

Earthrace

This looks like a fossil-fuel sucking machine, but it was actually a 100% biodiesel, 100% carbon neutral, wavepiercing trimaran. Earthrace was built specifically to break the record for a powerboat to circumnavigate the globe—a goal it accomplished on January 6, 2010 after traveling 23,497 nautical miles in 60 days, 23 hours and 49 minutes. Unfortunately, Earthrace came to a tragic end after being hit by a Japanese whaling ship in January 2010.

Transparent Kayak

This canoe-kayak hybrid offers paddlers an unobstructed view of the water beneath them—up to 75 feet on sunny, calm days! It’s made from the same durable polycarbonate material used to make fighter jet canopies and bulletproof glass, and can withstand 20 ft drops, hammer blows and intense crashing against rocks. It also comes with the expected canoe-kayak standards, including a water bailer, two flotation devices and two double-headed paddles.

Guitar Boat

Australian singer Josh Pyke created this massive prop for his music video, “Make You Happy.” It’s an exact replica of the guitar he performs with! It’s not an actual, playable instrument, but it’s cool nonetheless.

Robot Fish Head

If you have an extra $95 million, this is what you should spend it on. As you can see, the Oculus is shaped like the jaw and eye socket bone structure of a large fish. It sounds weird, but the final result is a menacing, yet elegant, megayacht. The 250-foot vessel can comfortably fit up to 12 guests and features a 12 foot ceiling in the main area, an elevator tube, a central staircase and a cylindrical, double-height dining room.

Seabreacher

The Seabreacher is two-seater, fully-submersible watercraft shaped like a dolphin. It sounds cute, but it’s actually kind of hardcore. Its canopy is from an F-22 Raptor and it has a 1500cc motor that allows it to jump, dive and roll like a real dolphin. Plus, it’ll only set you back around $50,000.

Wallypower 118

If Darth Vader was a pirate, he’d drive the Wallypower 118. Encased in distinctive black glass, this 118-foot, 17,000hp superyacht weighs 95 tonnes yet can do speeds of 70 mph. As of May 2011, it’s being sold for almost $18 million dollars, which includes a bonus Yamaha FX cruising water bike.
