An old concept reinvented.
Back in the days of Cavemen and Women I would imagine was humankind’s first experience of sharing. Hunt the meat, share the meat, pick the berries, share the berries – you get the idea.
Fast forward thousands perhaps millions of years(debateable but that’s another blog) and here we are in the digital age. Once again Sharing, but this time with the world. Surely that’s a good thing? By human nature standards it seems to be. We share our lives on social network sites(albeit perhaps too much of), we share the successes and failures and endeavours of ourselves and others via Video on Youtube. Everyone can now have 15 minutes of fame if you own a camera. The abundance of file-sharing networks and torrent sites legal and illegal have expodentially grown in the past five years and to be honest they wouldn’t if the demand wasn’t there. Even by me writing this and you reading it I have shared with you, now marry that to the many other blogs and articles you ingest into your brain everyday and you can see our thirst for information right now may just be unquenchable. It’s great to be curious and seek answers in 2010 it’s a damn sight more interesting than picking up the old encyclopedias from days gone by or asking your parents, who replied with answers rolled out from their school days that may today seem very flawed.
The internet is one big behemoth of Sharing, that was its starting principle. The Sharing ideal has put your world on a platter and you are expected to eat it up every day from your phone, your desk, your car, your work and so on. Sharing comes with the best intent and motivation ie if you have something share with someone else.
Are we now experiencing a sharing overload?
Backtrack to that pre-historic cave where the simple drawing on the wall depicts a life then as it was. You physically can they still exist for you to see. Was that the first example of sharing just without the wires?
Remember sharing may just last forever. Once you’ve shared it it can’t be taken back. Good/bad or indifferent You decide….
