We live our life knowing our manufacturing date but the expiration remains open; it doesn’t mean however that we have forever.

Shelf life is a term which applies to medicines inside the medicine cabinet, stuffs inside your refrigerator ranging from beverages, spreads, perishable goods (if packed and bought from the grocery). The canned food stored on your kitchen shelf, condiments and dipping sauces go as well which in general concerns almost everything that we utilize in our daily life.

The main concern of shelf life would be significant for all things we take inside ourselves, like medicines and food stuffs for example. How would you imagine yourself being a dumpsite of stuffs which has outlived their estimated working condition? Rotten food would be feasted by bacteria and other parasites if we could be less careful not checking the packaging. The main idea is that everything has a chemical make-up which undergoes constant change when exposed to the elements. We could slow down the decay of food by basically utilizing refrigeration but when it comes to ourselves, we can’t do so. Our hairlines are receding as we grow old and our hairs turn gray if they persist to grow on our scalps, on most cases all we have were empty scalps as most men do. Life is indeed devastating, we may never see it but every molecule inside ourselves are constantly bouncing up with each other in response to the condition set by our environment. A lot of our skin cells die every day as our brain cells do. The sad thing is it had been the basic assumption in medical studies that brain cells don’t regenerate which seem to account for a stage of dementia in older people.

Where have I been? Ah yes, I have just been writing about shelf life. So you see, as we grow older we just couldn’t expect much. As the chemical reaction in our life gets underway, if we just don’t expire soon or late, we may just be some empty shell on the shelf, whichever applies, do not attempt to look for the expiration date stamped on your butt.

What an interesting metaphorical take on the life expectancy of a human-being. Sadly, all must expire sometime. Thought-provoking write, Will!

a cure for expiration is at hand. Maybe it will require a bar code to decide when the eventual expiration takes place.

  • Ruby Hawk on Mar 10, 2010

We don’t know when our experation date is so we had best keep ourselves in the best condition possible. We don’t want to end up on the shelf with an empty head.

A simple piece but a lifetime of “thoughts”.
