She’s Ready. Her clothes are set out. The fan is set up. But cold weather doesn’t want to take a vacation. Oh, come ON! Where is the sun?
Okay, that’s it. No more Ms. Nice Guy. I’ve waited all Winter–and Fall, and Spring and Summer–for warm weather.
IT’S TIME.
I have the shorts and tank tops ready.
The electric fan is set up.
Let’s go!
So why are we still getting breezes that are f-f-freezing? Didn’t that weather guy say it was going to be warmer today? I’m shivering! Again. I’m supposed to be sweating and griping about the humidity!
If this keeps up, I’m moving.
I might go to Arizona. Maybe Florida. I might even go to (gasp) California! All I know is: I WANT WARMTH! I want to live somewhere that it doesn’t tease you by going up into the 70’s during the day, then into the 20’s at night. Where it doesn’t rain, or at least feel like it’s about to rain, 90 percent of the time.
I’ve hesitated when it comes to moving for a number of reasons. One is that it’s so beautiful here. Well, it makes sense. With all the rain, the plants are like a bunch of overfed pets.
But I like it here because this city is so delightfully quirky. Officially its nickname is the Rose City, but the people who live here call it stumptown. That tells you something, right off. This is the kind of place where if you want to wear shorts, sandals, socks, a muscle tee, and a parka—at the same time—go ahead, it’s cool. Just about anything goes here, except rudeness. We’re the big city with the small town feel to it. We have the usual giant malls and things like that, but we also have neighborhood parades, First Thursday(when musicians go out on Burnside Street and entertain everyone),and lemonade stands.
And we’re located between volcanoes–Mt. Saint Helens and Mt. Hood. Our evening news often consists of reports of rumbling mountains. Now, that IS cool!
It’s the kind of place where, when I take my congas outside to play, I’ll often have a neighbor come up and say they appreciated hearing them. I guess we’re a bunch of beatniks, deep down.
I love the rampant tree-hugging. Hmm….I wonder, are there any warm states full of tree huggers?
Because I’m done being cold! But where would I go?
Oh, I don’t know. This city seems to suit me. I suppose I could get a Winter home some place. Maybe Hawaii. After all, I used to living near volcanoes, and I hear Hawaii has one or two of those.
