I’m not asking or saying that is there an afterlife or not rather I’m questioning that should an afterlife exist.

More that 95 % of the world is either Christian, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, Buddhist or some other religion. The rest are atheists, agnostics etc. That means most of us should believe in some form of an after life at least from a religious point of view.

That being said, it is also a fact that most of us from the religious groups above don’t believe in an after life mostly because we live in the modern world where a concept like afterlife seems a bit absurd and illogical. In other words many of us are actually agnostics (or even atheists) at heart but only 5 % are brave enough to say it out loud.

I think it’s futile to take on a discussion like “Is there an after life” because it’s beyond our ability to prove or disprove anything. So I would like on to take on the challenge from another perspective that is ” Should an after life exist”

Should an after life exist?

Few days back a dead boy (age 13) was found in a canal near my city. It turned out that this boy was from my previous school, in fact he was a friend to my younger brother. As the story unfolds it turns out that few months back he’s father had died (at a young age of 40) and few years earlier his mother had also died (age 35). This boy was killed by his car driver who was working under the boys step mother. I won’t go into further detail.

Similarly you can see many such happenings where innocent people are brutally murdered or tortured. Now looking at all these stories you would say where is justice? Some might say that catching the offenders and giving them punishment in this world is justice. But it’s a fact that most of these offenders aren’t caught. If you have watched the movie ” The lovely bones” you would get what I’m saying.

Looking from a Just point of view we would want an afterlife to be there. Because when an innocent child is killed it makes you wonder what about all his/her dreams and ambitions and expectations from life, what about all the experiences he/she never got to taste, whereas you yourself were less innocent but still got to enjoy life.

I know many of you would say that if you desire something to be or happen it does not mean that it will happen because that’s the cold truth of this world and one we’ll have to live with and to make justice prevail more we should make better efforts at catching criminals.

I do agree that we should make better efforts at catching criminals but I don’t agree with you completely either.

Read my next post where I’ll try to expand on this concept further:
