The time is NOW.

In our hectic day to day lifestyles, we rarely set enough time aside to think, let alone stay in touch with nature and ourselves. We wake up in the morning, go through our frantic routines, run out, run in, continue our frantic routines, and eventually go to bed where we toss and turn and dream of running through our frantic routines. And yet we wonder why we age so quickly or why we feel tired all of the time. The fact is, we just don’t invest enough time doing the things that we should be doing. Like eating healthy foods, maintaining a low stress environment, loving one another, meditating, and exploring the natural world around us.

Some might respond in their defense that life demands that all of their waking time be spent just the way they are spending it- running wild-eyed from one extreme stress-overload to the next. But why do you feel this way of life is necessary? After all, if that’s the degree of effort that you’re putting into getting through the day, what are you getting out of it? What will you ever get out of it? Is that what you want? How long will those rewards, if any, last? What I am asking of those of you that feel that you just don’t have time to live is, “What’s the point?”

And I’m not trying to sound depressing here. I am just trying to give a wake-up call to those of you running around with that crazed look on your faces as if you don’t have enough seconds in the day. Eventually, you’re going to have to give in, if only a tiny bit, and slow down enough to at least breath. This after all is life. And this is YOUR life. Your ONLY life. Live it. Savor the breaths you are breathing. Stop to admire the sunset every now and then. Feel the breeze on your skin. When you eat a meal or a snack, eat it. I know that sounds odd, but when you eat something, take your time to enjoy the experience. Sure, when you’re on the job you can multi-task all you want, but when it comes to those few precious moments throughout your daily experience such as eating or taking a break, slow down and enjoy the experience. After all, no amount of work will diminish the fact that we all have an expiration date. Live while you have the chance.

That once shining rule that said “silence is golden” is now lost on those who are uncomfortable with silence, or who always feel the need to be busy. Being a busy bee is actually a habit that people develop, and in my opinion, a bad one. I agree with you: I think we humans should re-learn the meaning of stillness. In a balanced lifestyle, everything not only has its place, it has a meaningful place. Over the last decade or so, I’ve come to believe that life is less about surviving, or getting it right, and more about living and learning. Besides, God wants us to enjoy our lives, but he likes to see us do it responsibly. We must treat our bodies and the time we have with respect.
