We all need a jump start. But how do we keep going?

For me, motivation has been like a sugar high. As quickly as it comes, prompted by various factors that are often quite indecipherable, it just recedes after a night of peaceful repose, as sleep washes away all traces of excessive emotion. I wish I could find a motivator that is powerful enough to always keep me going, e.g. saving the world, money, fame, happiness. Yet, these are all too remote and their scopes are far too extensive. It’s quite a drain on our brain juice if we have to keep the big picture in mind 24/7.

Motivation is what jump starts you, but what keeps you going should be inertia, or habit.  A second nature habit saves you from exhausting your mental discipline (which, as we all know, is very wearisome even with the slightest usage).  Instead of sugar, use the motivation like oatmeal, or whole wheat bread. (A little less tasty, but more wholesome). Try hard to make the motivation last longer, as long as needed to push you off in orbit. Then, hopefully you will never fall out of it again.
