A brief article about sore losers.
Do you not hate watching these competition shows like X factor, Britain’s got Talent and Got to Dance with somebody who keeps saying things like: “That was awful”, “They were really messy getting up into their lifts”, “They are shit”.
I have to admit I’m not a particulary big fan of these shows anyway, but when I do watch them I would like to be able to watch them and hear what is going on rather than my annoying little sister’s opinion of the first act!
An act called “Fear of the Unknown” was on Got to Dance tonight, and from what I saw of the performance they were stunning. Now I’m not a dance person at all! I don’t know anything about techniques or spins or lifts or anything. But to me it looked amazing. An opinion shared by my mum and dad. However my sister was not at all impressed saying that their moves were limited and they were messy going up into their lifts. Now ok, my sister is a competing dancer at “Champion” level in British Isles, Europe and “World” competitions. But the real reason she was being so hard on Fear of the Unknown? Is because her team “Team Devestation” didn’t make it into the live shows. Sure enough they got through onto the short list but got no further.
One thing she kept harping on about was the fact that Fear of the Unknown used to be “The Box”.
“They were making out like they’ve never been on it before, when they have”, “They have no talent what so ever” Blah blah blah. Who cares?! Tonight’s performance was amazing! Just because you and your team didn’t get in, why do you need to be nasty about them? Get over it and grow up!
I can hardly talk though, I can be a pretty sore loser at times. But then again can’t we all? Its all about learning how to take defeat. That way you can handle things better “when you grow up”. You mature and you move on. Instead of saying “well they are totally crap why did they get through when we didn’t” look at it from the “What do they have that we don’t and how can we make ourselves better for next time?” angle. Then you go away, sort yourself (or your team) out and give it another shot. Right?
