Space Mountain is one of the best roller coasters in America because of its history in Disney and just the thrill of riding it. I tell a story of Space Mountain and how I traveled to succeed my goal.
Many people say there is no difference between Disney Land and Disney World, but I got a thrill from one I did not get from the other. My family and I went to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. I have visited the other Disney Land in San Diego, but it is not close to the size of this one. I never rode a roller coaster in San Diego because I didn’t have the courage to ride one. Now in the real Disney World, I was older and felt as if I needed to achieve my goal of riding a full size roller coaster by riding the exhilarating Space Mountain.
Space Mountain was my goal on this vacation. It is a dark, indoor roller coaster located in the center of Disney World. The story behind Space Mountain is you are traveling to outer space on your own sleek rocket up to the space mountain. My family included my brother, my mom, and my dad, but only my dad and I went on this rocket coaster. My brother, despite being older than me, was not a fan of roller coasters and my mom wasn’t too big of a fan either. She used the excuse of having to stay with my brother as her way of not riding the coaster. “Jacob, make sure you give me your hat. You don’t want to lose while riding the roller coaster.” My mom was always looking out for me. I gave her my Boston Red Sox hat, and my dad and I were on our way. My dad loves attention and always has fun deep down in him despite being one of the hardest working men I will ever meet. The Portuguese hard labor from his childhood seems to be with him every day. But today was a different day; he was excited like a small child who can’t sleep the day before Christmas. As the line moved up closer and closer to the front, I could start feeling drips of sweat run down my body because I was extremely nervous. The only previous roller coasters I have been on are the ones from Story Land; about 5 miles per hour and just go around in circles. Now it was the big time; only one family was ahead of us. The family of four ahead of us had to make a decision, since there are only three spots on each rocket. The dad waved to his daughters and wife as they shot off into the darkness. My dad asked him “Would you like to join us?” The man agreed with a quiet yes and a slight nod. He was a pretty big man, around six foot two, around two-hundred pounds, but he asked if he could sit in the back, must have had some nerves like me. The rocket is sleek and small, sitting three in a row vertically. My dad, being so excited, jumped right into the front seat. I was left with the middle, my heart almost pounding out of my chest. The next thing I know, I can’t see anything but darkness.
