I do not believe in ghosts who inhabit a house or vicinity for the sole purpose of scaring the pants off of anyone who comes within their predetermined area.

From the response I received from my article on August 12, 1007 entitled
“Do You Believe in Ghosts?”
I feel that I didn’t make myself as clear as I could have. When I said I don’t believe in ghosts, I was speaking of the traditional belief that so many people have of the term “ghost.”

I do not believe in ghosts who inhabit a house or vicinity for the sole purpose of scaring the pants off of anyone who comes within their predetermined area. I don’t believe someone decides to stay on this earth because they are just too cantankerous to move on. I believe a ghost is one who is deceased but has not yet crossed over and until they do, the popular name for them is “ghost.” I prefer to call them earth bound spirits. After all, without our body isn’t that what we are? A spirit?

If someone dies suddenly or unexpectedly they might not know they have passed and until they know their fate they would be between our “here” and the other side. If someone here on earth were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of their essence or spirit they would be seeing a “ghost” or an earth bound spirit.

Most times what we see are spirits. A well known psychic says once you have successfully returned to the other side, your spirit is free to roam. That compared to our home here on earth, the other side is like a hologram. They are here but on a different level. Their world is but three feet higher than our own so if you are one of the lucky ones who has caught a glimpse of the other side, you would have noticed that they seem to be taller or floating because they are not at our own ground level.

Have you ever noticed your pet follow something with their eyes that is unseen to you? Did you notice they are looking up higher than say, the height of a normal person? They could be following the path of a spirit and the reason their eyes are focused so high is because who they are seeing is on a different plane than our own.

So, technically I was wrong when I said I don’t believe in ghosts. We don’t all believe the same thing the same way and that’s OK because I think it takes a lot of distinctive and uncommon beliefs to make a whole idea. We have no way of knowing who is right or who is wrong but we are all entitled to believe our own way.

As for Lizzy Borden stalking guests with her trusty axe held high? The power of one’s imagination can be a truly frightening force.

Yes, I agree with you on that one. We seem to have similiar beliefs but with our own life experience imposed on it. That can make it treacherous when communicating beliefs between the pages. As long as the intention is good, all will be well.

I love this sentence: “The power of one’s imagination can be a truly frightening force.”
It said it all for me about ghost or spirit.

another well written piece – I totally agree, if you feel or see a presence it is highly unlikely they mean you harm. You inspire me to write about my own experience – another one on the list! LOL

We had a friend of the family pass away a couple of days ago in a terrible car accident. He was a person that held a a lot of grudges and had a lot of anger inside of him. His daughter saw him this morning staring at her reflection in a sliding glass door. He was my mother’s live in boyfriend and that is where his daughter was this morning, at my mom’s house. Im afraid for her because he had a lot of hatred for her since he followed her here from New York. WHat should I do it’s driving me crazy.

Hi Darlene, I’ve a rather strange question to ask you…are you related to William Burley? The reason I ask is because I have cousins with the last name McFarlane in Ontario, Canada and we’re all direct descendants of William Burley. That’s right, you read about Cornelius Burley…wonder if you and I are cousins…

Just dropping by to say hi

  • Ruby Hawk on Oct 14, 2007

I too, believe that sometimes the ones who have died come to visit us,to warn us of something or just to say hi in our dreams.
My mama, dad and other relatives often visit me in my dreams and they are always happy dreams. My dad came to warn and prepare me for something that was going to happen once, and it helped because I was expecting it.

I want to thank you too, Darlene for the information about the potassium in vineger.

The chances are quite good that your ex is a cousin to me, even if only a distant one. Since you are divorced, I’d rather claim you as family…even if only distantly. :) Thanks so much for all of your support and kind words. My story of what happened to great, great uncle Cornelius has introduced me to a cousin in Ontario, so I’ve been blessed. God’s blessings…

I have spirits in my Victorian home. And I agree; they are earthbound spirits. One fellow died in the house and he was still hanging around when we moved in.

I’ve had all sorts of interesting experiences (knives bending, strange scents, a shell that turns, and lots of noise) and oddly enough, view my “residents” as good company.

This is a very good and interesting write; although, I for the most part don\’t agree with it. I just don\’t think that our spirits hang around this earth once we die. I think that if they did; the bible would tell us so.

    Still an interesting write.

I do not believe in Ghost either. However, I do believe in spirits. Spirits are real and they never die. Spirits are the same yesterday, and will live throughout eternity.

I belive this is the essence of our dwelling and we (our spirit) will go somewhere one day to live. Hell or Heaven. Look future for a writing by me on spirits. Remember too, Ghosts nor Spirits are anything we should be afraid of.

  • SaintBobbie on May 20, 2008

#7 Andrea, This has been a minute since you wrote this not sure you or your concern received info. One thing you should know is that Spirits and or Ghost as many refer, should not be freared. One writer aboe said it excellent. It is the belief and ones own imagination that makes the spirit rule your thoughts and emotions. More if you visit my sight or seek counseling, of which I am available.
