"What we see depends mainly on what we look for." John Lubbock.

I’ve always been called a “negative” person. Let’s see..I was a worry wart at a young age, which I believe started at the age of seven when my grandmother died. Nobody prepared me or told me that bad things won’t happen all the time in the after-math. So I carried my life as a fragile, sheltered one (until those years parents fear, teenage-hood). Sometimes, it takes a lot of really crappy things for stubborn people to realize, you’ve only got one life..live it! My state of mind has changed a lot in the past six months. I’ve lost the three closest people to me and gone through more things than anyone my age should have to go through. No, cross that, anyone should have to. Bad things are going to happen that I do not like..that I could spend all day cursing the heavens and everyone around me for..but now I’ve taken a different route. The -I don’t give a fuck what you think I’m going to be happy and make the best life for myself and my son and you can’t do a damn thing about it- Route.

Now, what are we ultimately looking for in this life? As a whole, humans have the desire for love, comfort, happiness, and they seek it in the ways that they learned where it came from. Is it possible for people that learned it comes from harmful things to change their mentallity? Absolutely! However, it takes the utmost dedication in learning how to seek the right people, and also train yourself to love yourself. Don’t like who you are right now? Change it! There comes a time when sulking just doesn’t do it for ya anymore.

How does positivity affect us? The same way negativity affects us. When you are negative, you’re trapped like a fish in a bowl, and there’s a tiny leak in that bowl. Not only that, but the water that is left is polluted with feces and other toxic waste. EWW!! Sad, but true. Being negative sucks the life that can be lived! Negative self-awareness set us into depression, self-loathing, “what ifs”, etc. Positivity can do the same thing by taking over our being so those “what ifs” become “I cans”. We explore the world around us, try new things, excel at passions, and ultimately become the people we want to be.

Winston Churchill says it best with this quote,
“I pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity. An optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

The thing to remember is, you don’t have to fit yourself into the “Well..I’m just a pessimist and that’s the way it is.” (or to the truth stubborn, ruthless pessimist..”I’m just a realist and that’s the way it is.”) Listen, “a positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it’ll annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.” – Herm Albright

That’s the way to go. Stay focused and like who you are. Everything else evolves from that.
