By Bryan Wegman.
The cars zip past me. The lights beaming down from the streetlights leaves an eerie glow on the street. I walk this street alone. Stumbling back to the place I belong. A car zips past. I look up and watch it zoom off into the distance. I look back down to the ground and take strides avoiding the cracks. Left, right, left, don’t break your mothers back. Three steps to the left, 2 to the right and I am centered on the sidewalk again. My balance is gone and my brain is fired. I just need to make it home to sleep. I look up to see where I am. Nowhere close. I need a rest. I fall to my right.
Where the fuck am I? I feel like I took a beating. I reach up to feel the blood on my head. I look down and see it everywhere. I’m fucked. I stand up and stagger into the road for help. There’s no one there. No cars in sight. I fall to the ground again. My stomach tosses and turns. I can feel everything leave my stomach headed for my mouth. Out it flies all over my self. I lay down with tears in my eyes. I need help. Someone has to save me because I cannot save myself. I look up to my prayers being answered. Bright lights coming my way. I’m saved. The two glowing light beams burn my eyes as it approaches. Slowly making their way to my body. Closer it comes to the point I can make out the shape of the car. An SUV. Still closer it comes. It’s not stopping. I plant my hand in the pavement and push myself up, but my elbow collapses on me. I look to my left. A loud scream pierces my eardrums and white fills my vision.
