Beastie’s Reign- A memoir.

Third year in high school was a tough part of my adolescent years. Too many pressures- school work in particular and I got tired of them. One night, I decided to end it all.

I was reading about a history of Mesopotamia. The night was really cold and my head was aching in my desire to sleep. Scanning my book, I discovered that I have still 20 more pages to tackle . And I’ll have to study on other subjects too. It was then, I made up my mind- I don’t want to go on living like that anymore.

At that period, my parents own a hog and poultry supply store. They also sell some farming supplies like fertilizers and some rat poisons. That same evening, I went down to our store and got myself a sachet of rat poison.

The rat poison was in powder form- shiny black. I can still remember how it glistened as I stirred some of it into my mom’s teacup. The taste had been bitter but tolerable. I was worried of how dying can be painful. No turning back though. So, I went to sleep, not minding my scheduled examination the next day.

My sleep was dreamless. The next morning, I woke up! Alive!!

How I panicked! I didn’t finish my review on history and I was thinking of flunking on the subject. I felt really dead at that moment.

    Wow, surprising ending.
You seem so distant from the subject when you write about it.

“I felt really dead at this moment” Wouwses, so strong and touching.
