If you are not going on holiday because you can’t afford it, six weeks seems a long time to keep your children occupied.

                                 Summer Holidays, and How to Survive them.

If money is no object, then it’s easy to keep your children amused in the summer holidays. There are holiday clubs, and sports to occupy the most active of children, and then you may be taking a couple of weeks off for a family holiday at that time, so before you know it, it’s time to return to school.

But whilst there is a credit crunch, many people cannot afford holidays, or even days out, as everything is so expensive, and holiday clubs also come at a price which may not accomodate every pocket.

If you are a Mum at home, here are some ideas;

GET THEIR FRIENDS INVOLVED.

Many years ago, when cash was short, I got my daughter to invite several friends round. We organised a Sports Afternoon, with little prizes for the race winners of packets of sweets.

We also had a dance competition, and the winner had  a new hairband.

The day it rained we had a cookery competition, and the winner got to take their own cake home.

I organised picnics, some in our garden, and some at our local beauty spots. We visited many playgrounds, and sailed  model boats in our local boating lake, and flew kites, just so the boys were included too.

This was long before computers,  ipods , and mobile phones were invented. We had very little money, but we did have a lot of fun, so if anyone can find any of this helpful, as I know even a day at the zoo, with petrol and expenses can cost about £100, then I am pleased.

Enjoy the rest of the summer everyone!
