Give all women the full credit they deserve.
We as men have always fancied ourselves as ’supermen’and ‘God’s gift’ to women. When we’re young and growing up, it’s like it’s programmed into our DNA to be a ‘ladies man.’ But it takes much more to be a ’superman.’ Immaturity has no expiration date; as evidenced by the millions of ‘superboys’ running around masquerading as men; going through a midlife crisis-still trying to be the life of the party.
Perhaps the biggest and most well known ’superboy’ would be Bill Clinton. Caught with his hand in the cookie jar-Bill simply said, “I didn’t steal those cookies,” until finally coming clean with his wife at his side, visibly showing signs of having been clawed by Hillary. In this instance, ‘superman’ was chastised by‘Lois Lane’ and sent to the doghouse. Behind every good man is an even greater woman that helped him get there. Always with the unenviable tasks, the women behind powerful men get no credit at all. She picks him up, brushes him off and assures him that his failures are only temporary-softly saying, “Dear, you’re still my superman.”
Becoming a ’superman’ is no small task. I myself am still a work in progress; but having had two daughters freshly graduating and dating ’superboys,‘ I must admit I went against the ‘male oath’ and revealed to them a few of our secrets. I told them what to watch out for when ‘superboys’ came sniffing around. Even though I gave away the secret, they were so blinded by teenage love that they discounted every word I’d imparted on them. Which left me only to utter one word-wow. Followed by their snooty retort, “You don’t know him, he’s not like that,” which left me with a splitting headache; all the while thinking, ‘at 17 years old, we’re all like that honey.‘ But I dared not say it out loud- as I reached for the tylenol and headed to bed.
As I’ve stated; it takes work to be a ’superman’ and it never happens overnight. The late, great, Godfather of Soul- James Brown, summed it up beautifully; ‘This is a man’s world.’ Yes it is, but it would be all for naught without the woman. In order to become a ’superman’ it starts off with: no lying, no cheating, and giving your ‘Lois Lane’ the full credit she deserves.
