An inherent virtue of all human beings is Privacy. In the postmodern globalised world, it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain one’s privacy. Though science has threatened privacy, an individual today feels that to withdraw at times within a closed chamber is indispensable for self-development.
Goethe said, “Talent is developed in privacy.” Henry David Thoreau also in his Walden (1856) aptly remarked: “I have, as it were, my own sun and moon and stars, and a little world all to myself.” Whenever we feel our sensing organs being irritated by the worldliness and frenzied pace of contemporary society, in such moments it will be most prudent to withdraw into our inner sanctuary which will rescue us against the fever and fret of life.
Every person has the right to live in freedom, to have his or her privacy respected and protected and an opportunity to develop as far as their ability and effort will take them – regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, caste, creed or economic circumstances.
The government should never intrude upon the sacred arena of a person’s privacy. The fanmous celebrities often complain about the loss of the coveted privacy in their life. In the following lines , we find the poet emphasizing the great importance of keeping our inner sanctuary of privacy away from the public view:
So when you behold bright fishes of gold,
In globes of immaculate purity;
Just think how they’d be more contented and free
If you gave them a little obscurity.
And you who make laws, get busy because
You can brighten he lives of untold fish,
If its sadness you note, and a measure promote
To Ensure Private Life For The Goldfish.
