Is it about ways to rule our planet through means unimaginable or simply to slow down on our approach to life and preserve our environment?

Happy Earth Day 2010, everyone.  Owing to the tremendous delay in publication, I would like to indicate that I have written this article the 22nd day of April in commemoration of the Earth Day 2010. So if this post gets published sometime next day or week I hope I could still save my point for sharing. As we sniff our share of air from this very day we might as well reflect upon the degree of ‘freshness’ in it or the level of its toxicity. I doubt if most of us could savor that fresh air in the midst of a busy city caught up in the humdrum of its business activities. I suppose if there’s some air we could label as fresh, we owe it to the lost tribes thriving at the heart of the Amazon while a horde of chain saw- wielding lumberjacks from a logging company topple down the trees surrounding it every minute. From simple celled organisms called “prokaryotes” we have arrived to this point in our long evolution as a power hungry specie in the animal kingdom worthy of admiration (or humiliation), you decide.

A week ago, in 14 April the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull (I hope I got the spelling right) in Iceland placed all Domestic and International flights on hold in most airports over Europe. It was a time of reckoning where when Mother Nature draws her own power, we have no control over it but to wait. But I doubt of course if in certain parts of the globe some mining companies have halted their operations for a moment in drilling holes down the surface to extract oil or in obliterating the surface with dynamites to extract iron ores or anything worth mining for a marketable value.

As far as I could see it, we are destroying this planet faster than she could recuperate from the wounds we have inflicted and by such time comes that Mother Nature calls for a major overhaul we might as well be flushed out of her system when she so decides to detoxify herself. So it seems justifiable that we have all reasons to be restless and wreak havoc far as we could considering our limited lifespan and highly unstable state of thinking. Soon or late even the mightiest billionaire in the world will be just a heap of raw mineral returning to the surface of the earth exacting the same part of it he took at the prime of his life powering all his whims and endeavours.

Special cares are truly needed. Thanks for sharing this.

A sort of what-goes-round-comes-round syndrome, eh? The volcanic eruption in iceland was Mother Nature’s doing. She had nothing to do with the oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico this week that killed 15 and left an oil spill several miles wide that is now being described as an ecological disaster.

Even though this article was published late. You still share a very important insight here. We all should concern about the health of environment as our earth has been ruined unexpectedly by humans themselves. Thanks and clicked you \\\”liked it\\\”.

We should not just think of ourselves, but our children and granchildren who all want to enjoy our beautiful planet. We need to leave as we would like to find it ourselves. A very detailed and well written article.

The earth will survive but we may not. Time is running out on us. After a certain point we will hit the point of no return. But the cockroach will survive.

Excellent write Will. It sure is very worrying and I blame us for being to clever in our technology, wanting to travel far to quickly and for things to advance beyond our earths means. If we got the choice to go back 90 years or longer, I think I would be voting on that.
I was made for a world that stayed in one place, used horses to travel and do work, used herbs to heal. Yes more people died but is that a bad thing in our over populated world?
I want to take in the fresh air, I want to feel the clean rains on my skin. It is so sad it makes me want to weep.

Mother Nature has a way of paying us back for the way we treat her. This is an excellent write!

Good article I keep saying it’s too late the damage is already done, but maybe we can slow the process down, but it’s obvious that our actions are having an effect on the climate. Thanks for sharing.

You brought up some excellent points in this article. We should do more to save the planet. If we don’t, who will?

  • Lady Sunshine on Apr 23, 2010

Thought-provoking, Will. We humans are just visitors, after all. This planet never belonged to us. Nature’s payback, if you will.

What an intelligent way to put it. I couldn’t even pronounce the volcano’s name.

  • LoveDoctor on Apr 23, 2010

I did hear about this in the news. This is devastating. The earth has already been damaged by other people’s careless actions. We must try to do our best to save our beautiful planet for generations to come. Well-written and thought provoking article.

We like everything fast, convenient and easy that we tend to neglect nature. this is another eye opener.

  • monica55 on Apr 23, 2010

A very insightful post. I totally agree that we should be considerate of the environment. Otherwise we will find that this environment which protects our lives will disappear, one day. Well done.
    Monica.
