Comparing today’s youth with the youth of their parents.

Think, for a moment, the difference between a baby boomer’s youth and the youth of today:

- Obvious signs of the times are earning and the cost of living.

- Do you remember the joke about a man (who was a doctor) and his son were involved in a car accident.  The dad, who was driving the car, was killed and when the son was taken to an emergency room, the doctor said “I can’t work on this child.  This is my son”.  Well, back in the day, people had to stop and think about it.   The dad just died and this doctor in the ER was saying it was his son.  Step son, maybe?  No, it was his mother.  But back in the day, women weren’t doctors.

- Speaking of hospitals, today’s youth have never known a world without AIDS.  But when we, the baby boomers, were young we heard our parents talking about somebody being committed because they’d “lost their mind”.  Today we know they have Alzheimer’s.

- Let me change the subject – what about those forbidden styrofoam containers we got our take out in.  Not today.  Not environmentally friendly!!!!

- Oh what a nightmare it would be for today’s young adults if they had to live without a microwave.  They think that’s the only way to pop popcorn.  How many young people today do you think have a “special” pan they pour the oil in and heat it up so they can pour in the popcorn kernels and shake it over the stove until all of it pops?  Wanna have a fun family night… do this for your kids.  Trust me, they’ll love it.

- Having worked in Human Resources, I’ve interviewed and hired people who’s birthday was AFTER I got out of high school.  That means I was old enough to be their parent. OMG!!!!  And there they sat talking about how “old” their parents were.  After all, people who are enrolling in college this year probably weren’t born until 1992.  I don’t even want to tell you how many years that was AFTER COLLEGE for me!!
