Don’t forget to get your TPS vaccine (side effects may include nausea, diahreaha and making a reasonable argument.)
Johns main point appears to be reason or rationality of any kind would not be possible without it being built into us by a higher being that mysteriously already posses reason I wonder who gave it to him?
Seriously though if the watchmaker turns out not to be blind he has allot of explaining to do. As amazing and complex the human body is it is not without it’s flaws which makes sense if you believe in our evolving from simpler organisms but how do you explain these flaws if we had been designed by a perfect all knowing being who loves us dont you think he would have ironed out some of the kinks?
“ 3. We can know God exists because our functions are reliable rather than purposeless.”
I am completely at a loss as to what john was trying to say here because I have never heard of a definition of the word “reliable” in which it is the opposite of “purposeless”. I think maybe john is saying that we can trust our senses enough to survive which is true most of the time but once again I do not see why this fact implies to you that we were created by a supernatural being I have already explained how natural selection could just as easily be responsible for this without having to speculate on a supernatural answer. In fact let’s say hypothetically evolution was disproved tomorrow by finding incredibly complex fossils in a time in which only simple life forms were supposed to have existed it still would not make a naturalistic answer any less plausible or make a supernatural answer any more plausible.
Well that’s it those were the proofs. Of course they aren’t actually proofs they are talking points designed to facilitate a more substantive argument. In fact the only reason they were so easily refuted is because there is not much to refute. A problem I have experienced over and over again in talking to young earth creationists in particular is that these talking points are often seen by them as arguments which they are not. They can theoretically be a starting point for an argument (although I would not pick these ones if you wanted to win that argument.)
Okay that’s enough god hating for today, I hate to pimp my own product like this but if you like this article it is kind of related to another article of mine called Bad Metaphors Make Baby Jesus Cry here is the link.

If this article gets a good reception I might consider turning this into a kind of series, but I will only think about it if a million people hit the I Like button so do your part.
