The solution to texting while driving.
Recently a new kind of addiction has taken over millions of teens. This is texting while driving also called driving while intexticated. This includes taking calls, playing games or texting while driving. As early as 2005 there was already over 5000 deaths per year associated with cell-phones but the number has astonishingly increased to over 20,000 deaths. This is very greatly associated with the new technology which can be very distracting and the fact that over half of the families in a population own at least once cell phone. When interviewed teens said that it was fun and they did not consider it at all dangerous. One teen described her experience of texting while driving. She said that she had gotten into a major accident slamming into the back of a truck at a big speed that had resulted in a minor concussion. One year after her accident she resumed texting and got in another accident this time with no injury. “Texting while driving is simply to addicting to stop” said the teen when asked while she resumed it. Recently a company has started making a product which will turn off cell phones while driving. “what it does” says the manager “is that when you turn on your car, it sends signals that inactivate texting and all calls except for emergency calls.” Aditionally, it will be monitered by parents and if the teen attempts to turn it off they will recieve a text. This product may be a huge life saver when developed and the only problem will be to convince people to use it.
