How old are you?

I am getting to the age that I am already taking years off my number and I look 10 years younger than I am.  I didn’t even know I am doing it and it just started happening.  I thought it funny at first and then I noticed it kept happening. I kept saying I was 32 when I was 33.  People say when they meet me I look like I am in my early 20’s and when I get carded I always think of it as a compliment, so where in the American psychy is it that so many of us start “dating” ourselves as we get older?

You know, wow, now am I considered middle aged? I remembered that I first said I wanted kids and to throw the ball with them when I was 24 and to be the cool mom….Well, marriage hasn’t turned out for me yet, but I am not jaded. Still holding out for the right one. I came close once, just didn’t quite make it.  Ya know, I look back at my life right now as it is 3:36am in the morning, there is a half moon on the back deck and the stars are alive. Hey, I don’t care if you are in NY, LA, Bora Bora, or Afghanistan, when you look at the sky on a night like this, I don’t know who doesn’t think it’s beautiful and find some peace.  And for those that don’t, try. I have been there too.

But back on the age thing, really, I have had countless nights sleeping under the stars, nights staying in Maui at the Fairmont that I will never forget, I have surfed, camped, went to the hottest clubs, smiled, cried, got in trouble, got out of trouble, was mischevious with a friend, laughed until the sun came up, been afraid of heights, went sky diving – 2x, been afraid of deep water and went scuba diving and one of my favorite pictures is me swimming right along a sea turtle both with our flippers and arms flying like superman….

And the thing that makes me smile….there is so much more.

Think back on your life – there has been so much. Yes, there is pain, yes, there are smiles. But you grow.

I want you to try something. If you love the sky, take those little glow in the dark stars…THE LITTLE ONES, not the big ones that look like they are in your babies nursery.  Take the little ones from the Nature store and one night put them randomely all over your ceiling – in your master bedroom. You would be surprised how they do not look childish, no one knows, and it gives you solice on the one night that you need it.

You can make fun, but not until you try it.

When it comes down to it…

You are only as old as you feel on the inside.
