Why do we do this? I don’t know. And you’ll not find the answer by reading my article. Instead, you’ll end up with an interesting question to ask yourself.

To stare into the distance is something that we all can do. We’ve probably all tried this before. Maybe at the job, at school, at grandma or just at home. In Denmark we call it to “stone”. I’m often “stone’ing” in school. But that doesn’t mean that I do not listen to what the teacher says. Unfortunately I will still get told to stop staring into the wall or the blackboard. So why do we do this? I do not know.. And you’ll not find the answer by reading my article. All I know is that I find myself comfortable when doing it. Especially after a day in school.

In fact I am stone’ing into the screen right now. It looks like I’m staring at the word “Screen”. But I’m not.. I do not look a the computer screen, even though it might look like it.

If you move the computer screen, you’ll see that I’m stone’ing into the table.

If you move the table, you’ll see that I’m staring into the wall.

If you move the wall, you’ll see that I’m staring into the ground.

If you move the part of the earth that I’m staring at, you’ll see that I’m staring into space.

If you move the space.. What will I then be staring into

Yeah that was a really interesting way of breaking things down.
    Still a good question:
“What is beyond space in its vastness.”

    Nicely written makes you think

Cool! A previous boss of mine used to occasionally stare into space. He just tuned out, stopped listening and stared into space.

It seems that your teachers cannot engage you enough.

Andrew: Thank you very much. I just suddenly sat there “stoned”, and I thought “why do I do this? and what am I actually staring at?”. And I felt like writing something, that would end up with this question. I think it’s interesting too. Thanks a lot for writing and reading. :)

Purnomosidhi: Unknow.. Yes. I would like to see what the unknown looks like!

Mitchey: Thank you. Indeed it does :)

Rana: I see. Well actually this is very normal, you’ve probable done it yourself. Maybe you still do this sometimes.. But actually it’s not because I’m not engaged when I’m at school. Cause I do my homework and I am active in the lessons. If I sit there and stare, I’m often a better listener. (Referring to the teachers thing).

Thank you all for commenting and reading my short article! :)

Very interesting. By the way, I usually stare when I stand or walk on the street. Though, not into a distance. I stare into nowhere, my mind is just in another universe, with my thoughts and article ideas. Funny thing is that most people, even the dangerous ones like skinheads, drunks, violent gypsies, etc. avoid me. I probably look like madman to them and everybody is afraid or at least cautious of mad people :)

I don’t know if I wrote the wrong thing then but this is exactly what I’m talking about :) I’s actually very relaxing. Haha. Not bad Michal, no bad ;) Thanks for this great long comment. I won’t write “thanks for this long comment it’s great and bla bla bla” anymore because you know that your comments are some of the best.

    Blessings,
