Delilah comes after Samson.
The battle was joined. Samson saw the beautiful Delilah and fell in love with her. He decided to make a conquest of her, but what he didn’t know was that she was making a conquest of her own. While they lay in each others arms as lovers, Samson was testing her, but Delilah was deadly serious. She was trying to discover the secret of his power. And what was her scheme? She intended to use lust and passion to get Samson’s mind off God, to reduce his mighty faith to the level of her lust. She knew if she could separate his thinking from God, she could destroy his faith and make him like any other man.
There is no one as deceitful as the woman who knows the weaknesses of men and knows how to exploit those weaknesses.
Unfortunately, Samson did not fight Delilah’s charms with his faith in God. He thought he could handle her with his natural strength and talents. On the other hand, Delilah took advantage of Samson’s weakness, and he let her do it. He could have used his mighty faith and kept her cunning plans from ever trapping his soul. But he thought he knew how to take care of himself without God’s help.
She began her subtle campaign to discover the signs of God in Samson’s life, which was the secret of his strength. He foolishly decided to play along with her because he felt he could stop when he wanted to.
He told her that she could bind him with seven green withes. She did, but he broke them off his arms like twine strings.
He suggested new ropes, but they were no match for his great strength.
But Delilah was cunning. She kept after him until he mentioned weaving his hair with the weaving machine.
When Delilah saw he had mocked her three times, she flew into a rage and demanded that he leave. But she did not do this until she had worked her way into his affections and filled his mind with lust for her body.
“You’ll never touch me again,” she screamed. “Get out!”
Samson returned to his people, but Delilah had left her mark upon his soul. He tried to get her out of his mind, but he had gone too far. Something had happened to his faith, and it didn’t work the way it use to.
The day came when lust for her took control of him. The cause for which he was born began to fade from his mind. He no longer heard the cry of his people. Their needs didn’t stir him. The Philistines didn’t look so bad to him as before. All he could think of was the sensuous body of Delilah. Lust had done its deadly work.
She was prepared for him when he returned.
“You can’t come in, Samson,” she said.
“I’ve got to see you, Delilah,” he answered.
She saw the lust in his eyes and knew she had won!
“Only if you tell me your secret,” she said.
“I can’t do that. Delilah.”
“Go away then.”
His nostrils flared, his temples pounded, his lips trembled. He gave a hoarse cry, “All right, Delilah. I’ll tell you.”
