I am fascinated by the decay of nature, old buildings, and demolition projects. These things are our history. When we destroy that, a part of our history is gone. I like to document the beautiful – and not so beautiful – before it is gone forever.

The rust on this old building in Dallas created by old pipes created a work of natural art. Natural due to the lack of human intervention. This decorates the exterior of the building and is highly visible from the road, drawing attention to it, as if it is an art installation. But it didn’t have to be this way.

American builders, contractors, and historians are doing a great injustice to our interesting buildings. Of course, this is not just an American problem, it is happening all through the world. And it is a pity. For the generations that come after us. With the prefab houses and buildings that spring up overnight all over our Country, the next generations will be lucky to find such treasures. Especially at the rate that they are being demolished. There is no history in prefab; except we sadly are going through an era of prefab. This is not something to be proud of for the history books.

We need to cherish our individuality, as expressed through our architectural history. Not just let things rot.

Which brings out another issue: that of the photographer being chased off of PUBLIC sidewalks in an attempt to take a picture of interesting buildings. Homeland security on paranoid steroids.

If you were told that this was an art installation instead of industrial decay… would you know the difference?

The point of this exercise is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think this is incredible. Some of my friends were shocked when I told them what this was. What is your opinion?
