Many clichés come to mind when the thought of this hit my mind. Among this are: ‘’It’s the hand of the giver that lies on top’’, ‘’to whom much is given, much is expected”. It’s clearly a fact that the Giver enriches the Receiver.

I have observed from the lives of Popular philanthropists like Bill Gates, Warren Buffett (two among the World’s richest) and coming down to my Country, the late icon Chief M.K.O. Abiola (winner of the annulled Presidential elections in Nigeria in 1993) that these Men and many more including Women, had a HEART OF GOLD. In their heart of gold, they had a compassion for their fellow man, understanding of the limitations of Man achievement and the milk of human kindness flowed in their blood.

Millions have gained from the philanthropy of Men and Women of goodwill, the world over. They are gaining, this very minute while you read this, would still gain even after this day and in the nearest future in different fields of their endeavors, in health challenges, in job training and recruitment, in financial empowerment, in advice given and also in knowledge sharing.  I now wonder who and why wouldn’t one be a giver, having benefitted from the benevolence of others?

I believe the hearts of some men are wicked not from their personal treachery but from their experiences or the tell-tale experience of others. Yet this forms no basis to excuse the beauty of giving. In giving, one multiplies his/ her happiness, makes life worth living or a breath easier for the next person and unconsciously sows a seed of giving. When giving, I don’t subscribe to the idea of giving to ’Professional alms beggars’ like those able bodied Africans (including Nigerians) begging in the streets of Europe or America or those who feign physical handicaps and life an opulent lifestyle after a day’s begging or those who come to you for financial aid without a cut-out budget of what and how they intend to utilize the cash. Some wealthy people often say, ‘‘they want people to go through their harrowing experience’’ but they forget life could have been made a lot easier if someone hadn’t shown them the way or was available at their time of need.
