Some of the things that I cherish the most in my life.
I cherish lots of things in my life. My children, my husband, sunsets, stars, butterflies…. friends. A girls can say she is lucky to have a best friend that she trusts with her whole hearts and soul. I have two. Boy, am I lucky.
My best friend Brandi has always been a part of my life. We were put in our cribs together as babes. I don’t remember a time in my life that she hasn’t been there to experience with me all the joys and pains of becoming older. When we were younger, we would go shopping and buy matching outfits to wear to school. As we got older, and boys came into the picture, we had the standing rule that most girls have… “Do not date my ex.” Unlike most girls, Brandi and I can honestly say that we have never dated each others exes. Not even for a nano second. And when we got even older, when boys were not the main focus of our lives, our friendship grew even stronger. When Brandi had her daughter, she warned me that labor and delivery would hurt like no other. Of course, when I had my first daughter…. she laughed at me. “I told you so….” Our daughters were born 10 months apart. Brandi was there with every heart break, every tear, every pain of growing up. She was also there for all the smiles, joys, and victories.
My other best friend, Cachet, became my friend when I was 16. She moved to our area and started high school at the beginning of my sophomore year. Boy, Cachet and I had lots of fun during high school. She was the one who taught me to smoke, taught me to sneakout of the house, and also taught me valuable lessons about my family. Cachet was the sister that I never had, but always wanted. When I had my first daughter, I got to warn her that labor and delivery would hurt like no other. When she had her first daughter four years later…. I got to laugh at her! Now I finally understood why Brandi laughed at me!
While Brandi and Cachet were never friends, they were not jealous of the relationship that I had with the other. While we have grown older, our friendships with each other have neve waivered.
When my husband and I got married, we just went to the courthouse to get married. We had dated for several years, and just decided that it was time to tie the knot. Cachet suprised me by showing up at the courthouse and taking pictures of the ceremony. She also framed them and gave them to me as a gift. Those are some of my favorite pictures. Brandi showed up the next day bearing gifts that any long time best friend would bring…. naughty nightgowns and the such. What great friends I have!
Now we are in our thirties, and much has changed in our lives. Brandi moved to the west of me, about four towns away. Cachet moved to the east of me, about five towns away. We do not talk everyday, it might me weeks or even months before were have a chance to call each other. But every time we talk, it feels like we talked just yesterday. That is the sign of a good, strong friendship.
Boy, am I lucky or what?
