Isnt Life Wondrous?
So then, what are the best things in life? As I have explained previously, true happiness differs from person to person. It is what you, and only you, hold dearest in your heart. It also differs according to age. Long ago, when we still needed our mothers to wipe our bottoms, we found happiness in the simplest of things. I remember, I found happiness in squashing unfortunate insects; being able to count; even being able to use the big toilet instead of using the potty (because I felt grown up). But, as we grow older, the best things in our life change as well. To some people, the best things in life become their family, maybe their friends. Maybe to others, it becomes the empire that they have built, their business or maybe their house. The best things in one’s life change over time. Our priorities will differ. This is because we change. People change. As a kid, I would love playing with my abacus and my toy calculator, spending hours toying around with the wooden beads of the abacus and smashing the little grey buttons of my electronic calculator with my small fat fists, just to hear that electronic beeping sound that the calculator made. However, now at this stage life where I have been recently introduced to Add Math, I take no pleasure in counting and calculating anymore. I don’t hate it; but every time I see anything to do with numbers my brain just switches off. Why does this happen? Because we change.
I will say though, at this moment of life, some of the best things in life I have are (at the risk of sounding extremely clichéd) the wonderful friends I have, whom I have laughed and cried with; my amazing family, whom I realize, have sheltered, fed, clothed and educated me since birth; and also all the God-given blessings I have in my life: my house, my parents and just every day I wake up to. These things are, to me, more important than almost anything else in the world. The best part is, they cost me absolutely nothing at all.
Overall, even with 6.8 billion people living on our planet Earth, each and every single one of us are bound to find some form of happiness in this beautiful world of ours. Whether we’re 16 or 60, man or woman, rich or poor, Asian or African, we all do have a best thing in life, even you. However what is it that you treasure the most in life? Do you find happiness in material things? Or do the best things in life come without a price tag? Once again, there is no right or wrong, and that decision my friends, is yours to make.
