With the possibility of decent earnings for the writing efforts you put in at triod, the question has to be what other ways there are to try to make money.
I realized, some time ago now, that very few people who write for websites make real money dong it, because proper paying writing jobs are not well advertised, but need to be sought out, kind o like treasure hunting, really, except the landscape you have to navigate is the magazine market, both print and on line, and you are but one of many seeking those same opportunities.
It occurred to me that, since I have all day to myself every Day, and can sit in front of my computer for hours, that perhaps alternative income sources might be the way to go, so I have enrolled with several sites to start taking paid surveys, though at the moment I am still only in the process of registering myself with sites, and have not yet started properly on the survey taking. I wondered how many of you also had experience of doing this, and if there were any tips you could offer about it?
It does seem to me that my creative writing, at least the poetry, seems always to do well on triond, so I am also looking into the newly popular practice of kindle publishing, which appears to be gaining in popularity all the time. They want e-books to be at least 10,000 words, bit this only represents, in all honesty. about six to ten average length short stories.
Many of you who read my work will know that I have in excess of forty stories and nearly 100 poems published on triond, the stores rarely getting the attention I think they merit, so the possibility of making them into several e-books, to sell through Kindle, is quite exciting and something I am keen to follow up on. If I set the price, per anthology, at £1.99, and sold 100, I would be nearly £150 better off, much more than I could ever earn from keeping them on the triond site.
This may be a possibility for others of you out there who write sort fiction and poetry, so perhaps worth your while looking into it. While I appreciate that you may not want to take things off the triond site, a good look at how much each one has been viewed over time might change your mind. Authorspot pay lousy amounts anyway.
I had never, to be honest, undertook to write a book because I found the prospect quite daunting, but I happily write short stories on a regular basis, and perhaps if I can get anthologies published, that might provide the needed spur for writing longer works, so I feel I have to give it a try. There is too, the potion of writing for other sites than triond, which feature higher in the search engine rankings and might attract more views, but I would not wish to leave the family feel of triond behind completely.
I have to say that I have been utterly amazed at the tremendous interest in my post about the rainbow colored ants, because the post was just a bit of fun really, but that is the irritating wonder of the Internet viewership, more interested in fluff than really profound and interesting writing, because they as viewers have no need to think too much about it. As annoying as it is, I have to laugh, and I will keep on digging out these little treasures for the delight of the readership, whenever I come across them. That is, in reality, the writing life, you keep them smiling at the things you present to them, and they keep coming back for more. If only there were thousands of them.
