This is the time of year when we change. When we go to the office party, that irritating loud mouthed colleague that absolutely drives us up the wall, just for one night, becomes our best buddy. We sit with him, laugh at his  ridiculous jokes, and no-one would guess how we nearly came to blows with him only a couple of weeks ago! Indeed after a few drinks inside us, even the devil himself would seem a quite nice bloke.

Back at home we remember the saying,” Peace to all men”, or women as the case may be. Poor aunt Edie, she’s a widow, and hasn’t many friends, so no way could we allow her to spend Christmas on her own. We  gallantly offer the hand of friendship, and invite her over, smiling sweetly at her all through dinner whilst she complains that the food isn’t to her taste, the children are too noisy, and the dog is too smelly. We realise now why she hasn’t many friends, but because we are full of good cheer, we  don’t care, after all it is Christmas.

We become more generous than usual, donating to various causes, because it’s Christmas, and we make  a vow to be a better person next year. It is as well that we do, because  in the same way that we find other people annoying, they may well think the same about us, as we are not perfect either.

Whether you are a Christian or not, Chistmas time is a time that we do a lot of things because we care. We tolerate things that we wouldn’t put up with during the rest of the year. I think that it’s great that we have a reason to do this, and that we do care. It’s nice to feel the warmth that love inspires inside us all, and maybe we can find it in our hearts to forget old grievances because it’s Christmas. Merry Chistmas everyone.
