A short summary I wrote on my thoughts about whether God exists or not.

Some people believe that God is a concept of man; others believe the exact same opposite. The question that circulates our minds very often, “Is there a God?” makes a lot of us wonder if there is such a great spirit out there watching over us, and waiting for us with a great gift of eternal life.

A lot of people don’t agree with the “What if?” question, but I can’t help to ask myself, “What if there is nothing out there for us?” Where do all these stories from the bible come from? Don’t think of me as a non-believer, but as a new convert in the Christian church who has doubts.

I have a few theories of my own about where God may have came from, as I’m sure others do as well. Is the bible the actual word of God? A God? Or was the bible simply made through time for us to have something to believe in? I can’t help but to think of the possibility that the concept of God was made up to escape the fact that death is where all things end. I’ve sometimes come to think that people who believe in God believe in him just to help them sleep at night. Kind of like, ok, I have sinned forgive me please, and then it’s goodnight.

Like a daily routine, you sin, ask for forgiveness and then go on with life, almost as if God was made up to help clear a person’s conscience. Seeing how people trust and depend on God, what will happen to the world of faith if even one shred of evidence proved them wrong? Though God’s existence has never been proven, what would happen to all those believers out there? I have mixed emotions about God, I have no idea what to believe.

Even so, in the very back of my mind I think to myself that there has to be something out there. Where do we get all these feelings from? Is it really just science? I can’t recall how many times I have sat outside and looked at the beautiful clear blue sky just asking myself, “Why can”t we know?’ Why can’t we know what is out there?! It’s a question that angers me because no matter what I read or who I talk to or how I try to reason with it, there is still no answer.

And what about Jesus? History tells us he was a great man, peaceful, kind, noble, humble, perfect with all the perfection in the world; but was he really God himself in human form? I won’t argue his existence, who’s to say that a carpenter named Jesus never existed.

My question is, was his sacrifice worth it? Just look at what humanity has done to this world, was it really worth it? Debating about whether God exists or not will always be a strong and sensitive subject.

In many places, it’s not a subject allowed to be touched. Since there has been a “God” there has been a lot of killing in his name, so I ask myself once more, “Is there a God?” Only death will tell us, only death, after all, what matters at the end is what you believe.
