About coyotes in general.

The coyote is an intelligent and a playful mammal that is commonly found in North America, Europe and Asia. The coyote which is known as prairie wolf is an interesting animal and is a common animal of North America. It is also the most common dog of Saskatchewan. There are 19 recognized species so far. Some hate it because of them eating the farm animals and some hunt it to get the fur but some tries to protect them. Its family is wolf, fox and dog. The Canis Latrans is a Latin name for the coyote which means barking dog which Thomas Say invented in 1823. There are lots of things to learn about the coyote.

The coyote is an animal between the size of a dog and a wolf. They have a black nose, pointer ears, yellow eyes that are slightly slanting with black rounded pupils, pointed teeth that can make big wounds and a tapering muzzle. Their fur is mostly light grey but has dark grey on its hind part. They also have yellow fur on its legs which looks rusty, muzzle, and the part of their ears. Their throat, belly and the inside of their ears are white. The tip of their tail and nose is black. Their tail is usually between its legs or on the ground and it’s bushy. They have a long tongue so they can keep body temperature. Their neck look likes it’s bigger than the body. Their fur is long, soft and warm to help them in light winter.. The fur’s color changes so they can provide camouflage for them. They have a well-developed hearing and smell to help them hear or smell their prey like mice and other small animals or hear their prey under snow. They also can use their ears and nose when they are catching their prey so they can hear or smell which direction they can go. It has so good hearing and smell that any sudden noise or odour can change their step in mid-step. It has four toes on their paws and they do not use their claws for attack nor defense. Their paws do not leave deep marks. The male coyote are about 120cm to 150cm (with the 30cm to 40cm tail) long and stand about 58cm to 66cm high at shoulder. The female is a four-fifth of the coyote. Their legs stand apart about 10.5cm or 15cm. Their stride is 30cm to 40cm. Their tracks are 6.5cm long and 5.5 cm wide. It weighs about 20 to 40 pounds or 9 to 23kg. They can ran about 40km per hour but they can run up to 60kph or most farthest is 40mph. The coyote has better adaptability than a wolf. When the coyote howl, it triggers other coyotes to howl. It swims very well. It is generally nocturnal but sometimes diurnal (both day and night). This animal is amazing!
