Wow summer is almost over…. again.
Another summer is almost gone and the fall is about to began. This summer was a really hot and muggy one, rather uncomfortable if you ask me. Too hot to really do anything but sit in a pool of cold water if you were lucky enough to have one.
Those that didn’t have an air-conditioned really suffered this summer because the heat index was dangerously high most of the time. The evenings didn’t even give us much relief, with most nights staying just as humid as the day was.
The humidity started in April and it never really let up except for a few days here and there.
Although I enjoy the summer I don’t feel about it like I did when I was a kid. All kids love summer because it means the ending of a school year and now they can sleep late and do all of those fun summer things.
It’s not long before most of their parents can’t wait until spring when they go back to school. I remember this commercial where a dad was taken his kids school shopping and he was dancing the whole time because they kids were going back to school. I never really got that commercial as a kid but I sure get it now.
The summers go by much faster as you get older also; I remember when I was younger summer use to last forever. I remember the first summer I realized it flew by, I was in high school. I guess I was getting older at that point and realizing how fast time was going by.
For some reason the end of summer always seems like the end of something really big to me. It’s almost time to close up the pool, the yard is prepared for fall, you don’t have to mow as much.
Although there is the hustle and bustle of getting ready for school, things that kept you outside and brought family and friends over for cookouts start to slow down. The ice cream truck doesn’t come around as often and people aren’t outside as much.
The days are much shorter and not as hot the nights grow longer and cooler. You put on a sweater when going out in the morning or later in the evening and you don’t have to worry about those pesky mosquitoes.
Here’s saying good-bye to yet another summer.
