Is it the End of the World?
How can it be possible for a mere mortal living in this rented world for hardly a seventy years, suddenly come and claim something so weird and totally unacceptable like the end-of-the-world stuff?
Is it the End of the World?
How can it be possible for a mere mortal living in this rented world for hardly a seventy years, suddenly come and claim something so weird and totally unacceptable like the end-of-the-world stuff?
I’m truly amazed and shocked by the intensity of the movie 2012 brought to the global stage; the immense panic and sudden interest and the most dreading of all, a haunting despair. The other day, on the way to college, I picked up a conversation between two tiny girls; they were talking about their chances to go to heaven. One claimed that they had helped her dad clean up the yard, and so god would consider that and gave her a bonus, but suddenly, the other had a better reason. “Ah, Kids!” and I shoved them apart.
But my classmates were no different; the nerds became instant heroes, as they showered the bulls and those blonds their ends of the story, their reasoning’s and myths. All thru those long dragging 4 hours, there was nothing more to be heard but these tormenting predictions. Prediction? Ah! Just myths; or yeah! It’s just another made up stories.
I plugged myself into my iPod and listened to something more comforting, Music, there’s nothing else that could soothe the mind so swiftly. But then again, the fourth track that got played was, Nah! Your guess.
“Meet you at the end of the world”…
And once back home, I switched on my PC, hoping to find myself some clues about this, I researching on this for a while, and turned to have a look at my triond page, and the forums.
God! If there’s anything in the world that has startled a dozen people, you don’t have to read the news to know that, it’s always there on the triond forums. 8 were the number of threads with this subject on it, with over a dozen posts on it and counting.
Now let’s all just take a breather here. It’s not much use panicking over things that’s inevitable, right? But it gives you a headache to find everyone so engrossed onto this, but it’s not much good dropping off either. So here’s a compilation of the world’s predictions on the end-of-the-world. These myths about the end-of-the-world are classified as eschatological myths.
Bible: In The Bible, Saint John predicts the appearances of four knights from the sky, each one representing the lords of war, famine, plague and ultimately the death. They will rule the world resulting in an ultimate end.
African Tribes: The ancient tribes of the jungles of Africa believed that the earth was supported by a huge sea snake; when the weight of the world becomes too much for it to support, it will dive under and thereby will sink the entire world.
Inca Tales: When man follows an evil way, the goddess will weep and drown us in a flood of tears.
Aztec Myths: The Aztec’s claims that the god Quetzalcoatl will come down and strike the earth, resulting in its end.
Ragnarok, in Norse myth means the doom of the gods. A great battle will then be fought between the forces of good and evil, and ultimately the evil will win after a treachery amongst the good forces. Thus the evil will conquer the world.
An angel called Israfel holds a trumpet all his time, he is said to be the announcer of the end. When the end is near, he will blow his trumpet drowning the world is that deafening noise.
Persians believed that the end is certain when a dragon imprisoned in the center of the world breaks free.
The Modern World: During the cold war, people predicted the end of the world by nuclear Armageddon. But did that happen??
People will change at the brink of a need, at the brink of despair, at the brink where all other ways and means have failed. But we’ve got our life’s ahead, even after death; we’ll still be living, not physically, but in the hearts of those we loved and those who loved us.
