You must be really unlucky to get stuck with these books during your summer vacation.

Summer reading is a pain. Summer is not for reading, but to have fun. Yet all of us students still have to read a boring or painstakingly long epic novel. Why? To “learn” during the few months we don’t have to worry about homework. A good book is something that people could read, but usually, the people in charge chose either the most boring novel, or the longest novel that they can find. Most of the time they are so called “classics”. But who could really read these ancient novels? Not me.

But what would really suck is to be stuck reading one of these novels during your summer break. The novels below are some of the lowest rated by students, have the worst readabillity, or are epic novels that take at least all three months to read. If you are stuck with one of these books, all I have to say is that I feel your pain. Anyways, here’s the list.

1. Scarlet Letter- This book is one of the books that no one likes to read. In fact, the people that bought this book from Amazon even hate this book. According to one reviewer, it “…takes a good deal of concentration, effort, and strength to understand.”

Many other people find that book extremely boring. Though there are also some five star ratings for this book, there are a lot more people that really hate this book. It is one of the classics that are really hard to read and understand. It takes place in the 1700’s, what can you expect?

2. Les Miserables (Unabridged)- The unabridged version of this book is extremely boring. I have to finish this entire book in less than two weeks, so I should know. The first book of Fantine has no use in any way. The author himself says so, yet he just goes on and on and on about the bishop of Digne.

The one reason that it is so boring is that most of the book has useless information. The author used too much imagery to the point that I actually fell asleep midway in a long paragraph. Victor Hugo just drones on and on with as many details that he can stuff in each paragraph. The plot of the book is something that makes it so popular, and it’s also the reason it has made it into a huge motion picture. If you do decide to read it, please, for the sake of readabillity, read the abridged version. It is much more reader friendly.

3. Great Expectations- This is one of the books that I hated to read, because of the hard langurage it uses, but was also one of the best books I have ever read. It took a lot of studying Cliff Notes, but I was able to ace the exam over it.

Great Expectations is something no one should have to read during the summer. It won’t set into the reader’s mind as good as it can during the school year. So if you are stuck with this masterpeice by Charles Dickens to read over the summer, I am truly very sorry for you. The only advice I can give you about this is to go to your library, and get the Cliff Notes for it, or else you will suffer next year.

This is the list of the worst summer reading books. If you are stuck with any of them, go online to SparkNotes for a study guide, get a Cliff Notes of it, or get help from friends that are also reading it.

Great Expectations is not a very “great” book but it is the kind of book you can read just once and leave. It isn’t overly bad either. Guess you have to be an avid reader for it. And I like your choice of Les Miserables (unabridged). I haven’t read it but another friend of mine shared similar opinions.
Oh, and by the way, good (and unique) article but you only have 3 books? Or is that a glitch in my PC?
