New critters!

I am not sure how many of you have seen articles floating around about the glass frog, but it was just so interesting to me I had to quickly write about it. In this day in age you would think that we have discovered almost every species there is to find. According to Bloomberg, however, out of the 14 million plants and animals there are out there, we have only discovered about 1.8 million of them. How Bloomberg knows there is about 14 million different plants and animals I am unsure, but just think about how much in this world there is left to discover.

Conservational International had some scientists come back from Nangaritza, Ecuador with some amazing finds. Among the critters they found, the Hyalinobatrachium Pellucidum is getting the most attention out of all of them. I think this is due to how unique the frog looks. The pictures that the scientists were able to capture are just amazing, I must say. The frog is part of the glass frog species and you can literally see right into the frog.

I thought that in this day in age we had almost everything figured out. Yet I am constantly reminded that we have a long way to go. Here is a link to the pictures of the frog and other critters if you want to take a look at them. http://www.conservation.org/fmg/pages/galleryplayer.aspx?galleryid=X86 Enjoy looking at all these creatures.

That is quite amazing to be able to see into the frog. I can’t say I have heard of the glass frog before. A lovely article.

Gets me how they know they’ve discovered a knew species. How would anyone know all 1.8 million species, to know it’s knew.
