The Ian Bell incident in the World Cup cricket has strengthened the hands of the Indians in opposing the UDRS.
The Indians have been opposing the UDRS (Umpire Decision Review System). They believe that it is not 100% foolproof. The Indians have been proved right based on the Ian Bell incident in the world Cup match between India and England, played last Sunday at Bangalore. When Bell was on 17, he was rapped on the pad from a delivery from Yuvraj Singh. Bell was about two meters down the wicket. It was a straight delivery and did not turn at all and Bell was hit low on the pad.

Yuvraj was convinced that the batsman was out and prodded his captain Dhoni into asking for a review of the decision taken by the on field umpire Billy Bowden. The TV replays showed up the following:
· The delivery was a legitimate one.
· The ball was in line with the stumps.
· The delivery would have gone on to hit the middle stump.
Bell even started walking back to the pavilion after watching the replays on the giant screen. Then, to the surprise of everyone, including the English batsman Ian Bell, Umpire Billy Bowden stuck to his decision of ‘not out’ and Ian Bell was allowed t bat on. Because of this incident, the Indians will be on a strong wicket when they oppose the UDRS.
