An essay on the interlopers.

The Never-Ending Feud

The Interlopers by Saki, was about a conflict that involved two men, Ulrich van Gradwitz and Georg Znaeyn, who hate each other because of who owned a forest.  In the end of the book the feud is not over and that it will carry on throughout their family for years.  The feud would be carrying on for years because no one ever knows that they settled their feud.  In the end of the book the wolves hear their cries for help and come to most likely kill them.  When their men did find their dead bodies they do not know that they settled the feud, therefore the feud is still be going on throughout their family for years. Even though they settled the feud I feel that Georg is trying to trick Ulrich to get a hold of the land. It takes him a while to answer when Ulrich wanted to be friends because he thought about a way to have his men kill Ulrich. Georg also was asking about his men and when they are coming unlike Ulrich who is watching the wolves come down. Even if they were not eaten by wolves Georg would have killed Ulrich and the feud would be carried on for generations. Even though it has will be going on for a long time it has been already going on for a while. To end a feud that has been raging for years in just one night is not likely to happen. Georg would not want to be friends with Ulrich in the end anyway because he says, “and in any case I would don’t drink wine with an enemy”. To be angry at each other for years would a good reason for them to be enemies forever, which means they will never settle the feud. The feud will never be over because no one ever knew that they ever settled it and their offspring will be carrying this feud on for a long time, also never knowing who gets the land.
