Don’t look past the little things in life.

The Little Things

Many people get interested in a great movie they saw or a sports game that ended in their favor. Most people of our world make a huge deal about a riot or a great loss. I am not most people. As I was walking to school, my friend was telling me about how someone got shot in the head and didn’t die. My other friend said wow and pushed to hear more. I wasn’t with them at that moment. My mind was else where.

My eyes glanced on the road and noticed something. A paper cup, one that you would drink coffee in, was laying in the middle of the road. It was stiff and motionless, but as the wind built up in the crisp air it moved. Ever so slightly it moved.

Suddenly a car, cherry red convertible, drove by the cup. And it seemed as if the cup danced with the sudden burst of air. Like a ballerina, it twirled until it finally lay to rest. Stopping for a moment, I watched as the cars seemed to ride by it never touching. The cup would twist and turn around the wheels. It looked beautiful and invincible.

The cup was calm again and the wind was at ease. I stared at it intensley, daring it to move again. I dared it to began it performance. And as more cars came of all colors, the cup danced. The show brought joy to my face, until the music I had in my head disappeared. I watched the cup with tears in my eyes.

The black muscle car with beafy wheels brought domination. In the story I created, the car didn’t like the dance and the attention of my eyes on the cup. He was fierce and hard. He crushed the cup under him.

But there is something he didn’t notice when he rode away. The cup was flat, yes, but it still danced. The song it silently played was back and the dance was a different sort of dance. It was the dance of immortality.

Soon enough, I had to leave with my friends. I slowly looked back at that lone cup, a tear falling down my cheek. Gracefully the cup did a bow and layed to rest once again.

You see, most people would see the cup and not give it another glance. They would walk right by it and carry on with their conversations. They wouldn’t watch the cup dance or create story about the cup. The cup would be quickly forgotton. Most people don’t care about the small beauties of life.

I am not most people.

*****

Do me a favor if you read this, please. Look at the small things in life. Don’t glance by them and forget them. Just look at them every once and awhile. Because those little things can make a big story. PeaceV
