A story of six children, Andrew Vega, Rebecca Tyler, Jesse Matthews, Ryan Brooks, Emily Holden, and Nicole Anderson…
They meet up in Lakewood High School, where the guidance counselor arranges a group of children with issues to discuss about how to make their lives easier and help them socialize and get through high school.
Six stories. Six hopes. Six dreams. Six lives.
Andrew “Andy” Vega – Chapter One
I hear them fighting again… Mom and Dad. They always yell and scream. Dad was getting especially ticked off lately, he even tried to throw a wine glass at Mom the other day. Sarah, my sister, needed help on homework, and since Mom and Dad sure don’t have helping Sarah with homework on their To-Do list, I’ll have to do it myself.
“I hate it when they fight all the time.” Sarah tried hiding her face with her light brown hair.
“Me too, Sarah… but, just we have to get on with our lives.” I explained, I saw a teardrop splash onto the desk she had her homework on. I gave her a hug and told her not to worry. I told her she should just get ready for bed and sleep, so she did. I couldn’t let her go to school with incomplete homework, so I did it for her, in my best 10-year-old handwriting.
“Fine! Leave! What do I care you worthless bastard!?” I heard my mom yell to my dad, then I winced when I heard the front door slam shut. My mom’s footsteps were coming close to my room, my heart raced…
“Where’s Sarah?” She asked in a stern angry voice, you could see her eyes were red and irritated from crying and screaming.
“I put her to bed, she’s finished with her homework.” I replied, shakily in a nervous voice.
“I’m taking her to Grandma’s house with me now. Stay here by yourself. I’ll be back sometime tomorrow.” Mom ordered and went to Sarah’s room and I could hear Sarah droning and moaning for my mom to go away. Sometimes, I wish Sarah would just stop acting so arrogant, she really upsets my mother sometimes.
I saw Sarah clumsily walk out of her room in shorts and a t-shirt, with messy hair, and my mom grabbed her keys, walked out to the car with Sarah, and I looked out the window to see them drive away, and soon they disappeared on the now silent road.
The house was so quiet. So calm. So alone. It seemed so weird to hear nothing but silence in this mad house that I live in.
