A day of fishing.
One day this past summer i decided to head down to the beach and fish off the piles of rocks. These piles of rocks help keep the beach from eroding. So i set up my little area with a chair, my cooler and the rest of my fishing gear. I was fishing right off the beach so i brought my smaller rod which was for catching smaller fish. I was sitting there for a while. Occasionally I would get a few bites replace my bait and so on. I was a bout to call it a day when i felt a huge tug on my tiny fishing rod. The fish or whatever it was, was pretty big. I worked hard for about 20 minutes to real it close to the rocks. I could see it flapping about. I thought to myself what is this? Then I got a good glimpse of the creature it was a massive skate. Skate are basically the same things as stingrays but are brownish color and have bulkier tails. So I keep reeling in this skate it must have been about 6 feet across. It was flapping hard trying to free itself from my rod. As I’m about to bring the skate up the rod just snaps from all the tension. I fly back because of the force and the skate sails off rod in its mouth and wire trailing behind it. I was shocked at how close I had been to catching it, and just like that it was gone. I also thought that massive skate was swimming right were people are which kind of freaks me out because the thing was pretty big. After my rod broke in half there was nothing I could do more than go swimming because it was pretty hot out that day. So I collect all my stuff from the rocks and bring it down to the beach. I head off to the water. I get in the water pretty close to the rocks were I caught the skate about 10 minutes ago. I was having a good time cooling off. I was treading some water when i felt something hit my leg. It was not anything alive because it was not moving. I reach down get a firm grasp on the object and pull it up. It was the other half of my rod. It was a miracle that the skate had somehow manged to get unhooked and that i would find my rod. I quickly swam back to shore and made sure it was my rod. In the end it was and I will never forget that day when I almost caught the skate.
