The Onion is known as an American news satire organization.  It is a newspaper that began in 1988 and has a circulation of almost 700,000.  It started to gain national prominince with the launching of its web site in 1996.

Why do people like to read The Onion?  Simply because it makes us laugh and it makes us forget certain world events that helps shape the world as we know it today.  It pokes fun of political situations, sports, economy, celebrities and more. 

Remember when the sports nation was going through (and still is) the whole steriod situation?  A funny article they put togethr was after Sylvester Stallone was  caught with some banned substances at an airport.  the article was about how the World Titles Rocky won in Rocky’s II and III were to be vacated due to performance enhancing drugs.  That is just one example.

This newspaper isn’t to be taken seriously.  It is just meant to makes us laugh and to put a fresh spin on life.
