The Past ,Present and the Future is tale of a family that comes to a tragic end because of changing cultural values.

The Past ,Present and the  Future

Dheer was sitting in the veranda of his cottage in a remote village and lost in thoughts over his past, present and the future. His wife came and sat herself close to him. Aho! What is the matter? What is bothering you? No; nothing in particular. Said Dheer Just wondering about the kind of events that were happening at the hands of our son? In our culture and country this is a phenomenon as yet and not a practice or part of family culture?

It seems everything that I said or did for him was wrong. As other wise why he severed his relationship with us. As far as I can recall I never stood up against his career plans or personal liberties. At best I played the role of an advisor only. But no regrets! Even if it shows somewhere it is only a trifle. No more! No Less.

I am sorry Leenna; Dheer held her hand & spoke in almost inaudible voice choked with emotions “along with me I made you too to suffer this loneliness”. Had I not been at fault and responsible for the situation; you would not have landed in this mess and deprived you of the company of not only your son and daughter – in –law but your most loving grand children as well?

No, that is not right. His wife said with concern. Very often; have I not suggested you to not to brood on this matter any more? And do not hold your self responsible for the failed relation ship. You did every thing that a parent could do for their child. Please don’t carry that guilt unnecessarily. Now it was his turn to repay! But it is regrettable that he has not followed his family tradition and thus lost the Hindu way of living.

Yes dear! Said Dheer, I do agree with you but do not forget that I am a human being and full of emotions. I would have called him names when provoked: but never ever, deliberately wanted to hurt his feelings or damage his self pride. He supported the family whole heartedly but in his own way and style. Unfortunately, this child of 40 years association with us suddenly found irreconcilable differences and left us in the sand.

Dear me! I find myself incapable of living with this conflict & the fact that how one could be so ruthlessly selfish. I think and believe which parent would not feel proud on the progress & growth of their child and superseding his parents to become what they could not accomplish?
