A general description of the real meaning of democracy in america to the average joe.

the definition of a democracy is a form of government where every person cast a vote to elect a single leader to serve for a period of time. In the United States we hold elections every four years to either elect or re-elect the President of the United States. Every person that casts a vote counts, not really. In the united states it seems that the American vote holds little to no value. Every four years millions of Americans wait in lines and go out of their way to cast a vote for the election and every year millions are left with a feeling of importance and need. Well the truth in it all is that it doesn’t come down to the average American to choose who runs the country. The electoral college, either with the votes of the average American or not, still holds the final vote in the american election. If the United states citizens voted 52.9% in favor of Borak Obama and 45.7% for John McCain the individual vote wouldn’t matter if the electoral college voted entirely for McCain, McCain would win. Now even in that instance the electoral college voted majorally for Obama, helps prove the notion 45 percent of Americans votes didn’t mean anything. The fact is that it doesn’t come down to the average Joe, but to the “elite” of our nation to make decisions for us. What does that prove to our nation when our reality is that our vote counts when “the reality” is that it doesn’t. Where does that leave America?

Usually when political action is enshrined within rigid and wide-ranging political parties, you are essentially voting for one set of elites. If you vote for either, you just displace one set of elites for another.
