I had a delicious meal at this 14th century Inn, and would heartily recommend it.

The Red Lion at Lenham hits the spot
After a very busy bank holiday, during which my other half and I were busy working, we decided to take Monday off. We live at the Kent coast, which gets busy at these times, so we got in the car, and headed the other way, out into the beautiful English countryside.
The weather was certainly agreeable, the sun shone brightly, and even the mischievous breeze, which tugged at our hair, didn’t ruffle our spirits. We were driving around country lanes in the Faversham area, and the views were spectacular, undulating hills, green grass and hedges, set amongst the vibrant yellow rape seed in the fields. Past the fields stretched the woods with an inviting carpet of bluebells, which had hastily come into bloom, as if to compensate for the daffodils, who were now past their best, golden heads bowed down, and stems turning brown, after their glorious splendour in April.
We were searching for a country pub to have our lunch, and during our travels we came into the very pretty village of Lenham. We noticed the Red Lion immediately, right in the main street, positioned on the corner, with a wealth of beams and period features to attract the eye.
When we went in, it was inviting and full of character. It dates back to the 14th century, and is very close to Leeds Castle, which also contains a wealth of history. The inside is well laid out, with space between the tables, so although it was quite busy, we didn’t feel as though we were sitting on top of anyone else.
The menu was very diverse, a good selection of starters, whether you like soup of the day, or a fish dish, it is catered for. There were so many choices on the main menu, I found it hard to choose. It ranged from fish, to steak, vegetarians were also catered for, steak pies, and puddings, salad , curry and much more. I like to try something different, so I settled for Venison, with all the trimmings, and my other half had a steak and ale pie.
The dessert menu didn’t disappoint, as hot desserts such as apple pie and crumble were there, and then gateaux, icecream, cheescake, and trifle were also on offer.
As well as the food, the Red Lion boasts of a log fire, real cask ales, and a beer garden. The function room is tastefully set out in period style with oak beams, and outside there is a barbecue area. For patrons who like to cook their own meat or fish at the table, this is also an option, although I must confess that when I go out, I like to be waited on.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and we staggered out of there, feeling very full afterwards. The portions were very large, so regretfully I had to leave some. The price was reasonable, and they do a three course set meal for senior citizens for a price of £10, which I think is very reasonable. We will definitely return on a week day soon, and check that out.
